On August 11, 2025, Carlsbad Municipal Schools held the fifth meeting of the steering committee.

Presented final design options for School Board consideration.

Key points:

Mission Statement: Pride, accessibility, belonging, modern/flexible spaces for college/career readiness.
Modernization Needs: Building/seismic codes, academic/CTE upgrades, growth, HVAC, ADA, infrastructure issues.
Renovation vs. New: New construction more efficient due to swing space limits and phasing costs.
Student Feedback: Outdoor eating, open areas, better bathrooms, Caverns connection, fresh air/light, art.
Community Feedback: Support modernization, ADA compliance, keeping Main, shaded seating, safety, expanded CTE/labs.
Final Options:
Canyon: Keeps/centers Main; compact campus; 8 years; $291M (Alta Vista swing). Less academy flexibility.
Cavern: Consolidated building; 3 years; $193M ($242M with repurposed Main). More flexibility, less campus feel.
Safety & Belonging: Visibility, access control, zoning, student connection to spaces.
