The Finance Department at Carlsbad Municipal Schools manages the district’s financial operations with a focus on transparency, accountability, and long-term sustainability. We oversee budgeting, payroll, reporting, and compliance to ensure that every dollar is used effectively to support student learning and district priorities.

Our work enables schools and departments to operate efficiently while meeting the highest standards of public financial responsibility. We’re committed to maintaining strong internal controls, meeting audit requirements, and providing clear financial communication to all stakeholders.

What We Do

The department is organized into key functional areas, each responsible for a core part of the district’s financial health:

  • Accounting – Tracks all district revenues and expenditures

  • Accounts Payable & Receivable – Manages outgoing and incoming district payments

  • Audit – Ensures compliance with state and federal financial regulations

  • Budget – Develops and maintains the district’s annual and multi-year financial plans

  • Cash Management – Oversees the district’s cash flow and investment activities

  • Financial Reporting – Prepares reports for internal and public review

  • Payroll & Employee Benefits – Processes employee pay and manages benefit programs

  • Travel – Coordinates travel reimbursements and approvals

  • Records Retention – Maintains financial documents in compliance with state regulations
